Remote Desktop Protocol - RDP
Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), let you connect to a computer and use your own screen, keyboard and mouse remotely. From you screen you can act anywhere in the world on your home computer. You can open and use many applications on your home computer (with a few exceptions such as Photoshop and others).
While you are in holiday 1000 miles away from home while you receive a message that you need to get a document modified, update and excel spreadsheet to your office. Your laptop does not contain the document and does not have and word processor or spreadsheet software. Using a remote desktop you can connect to your own computer, you can quickly get access to the document, use the software from your home computer and complete the task in a few minutes. You can even print the document for somebody to pick up at the remote location.
In a nutshell the remote desktop shares the screen of the remote computer while you are using your own mouse and keyboard.
You can use a remote desktop on a Microsoft Windows Based operating system, Macintosh (Mac OS X), Linux and many others.
